Makeup musthaves - Brushes!

Hey there sparkle people!

I know i have not posted in a long time - i do however give mini tutorials and looks on instagram so do follow me there! - @sparklepassion25 :)

So, with so many brushes in the market, it becomes hard for a beginner to pick her brushes! That being said, i have learnt over the ages, that buying a few good quality brushes are an investment in the perfect makeup. So here's hoping my guide makes it a little easier:

Face:
1. Stippling brush

If there is one brush i had to pick out of all of the brushes i have its most definitely my stippling brush! I cannot stop raving about the quick beautiful air brushed finish that it gives you.
If you are just a beginner with brushes, i recommend buying this as it helps contain the amount of foundation you apply to the skin. I use it for blush, looose powder and contouring as well!
I am currently using the 219 by Mac, and also have a ----- from sephora's range of brushes. Might be a little pricey, but investing in it could go a long way!
A real techniques Buffing brush also gives you perfect coverage with your foundation!

2. Beauty blender-
If you prefer sponges to brushes, you have got to invest in a beauty blender for sure! Every makeup artist i know has been talking about it non stop and as i got to know recently, it is so true! It blends in foundation, contour, and blush so well that its perfect as a multipurpose sponge!
Its worth noting that it is very difficult to clean the stain off it unless you have the solid/liquid beauty blender cleanser.

Eye brushes:
The diagram below should make it easier to understand the eye brushes..

Disclaimer: This beautiful eye makeup has been done by Maya Mia from youtube.

1. Shader brush:
The shader brush is the brush used to pat on eyeshadow onto the eyelid. It is definitely an essential as a very basic eye brush need. I recommend the shader brush no ---- from real techniques - absolutely love it! The 239 from Mac is also an option if you are willing to pay a little extra.

2. Blending brush:

The next essential is the blending brush. An ideal brush of this kind has an oval shape and very soft bristles -  I absolutely LOVE makeup geek's Soft Dome Brush for this. This brush will allow you to soften out the harsh edges of your eyeshadow, or blend out 2 shades of it so it doesnt have sharp lines.
Can i tell you a little secret? I always use this brush to softly blend in my corrector under my eyes - helps me avoid the harsh lines that come from other brushes.

2. Crease brush:
You could use something like the soft dome brush to add some colour to the crease as well, or you could use another stiffer brush - the "Small Crease brush" or "Crease brush" from Makeup geek. This brush is a stiffer small bushy kind of brush that will allow you to concentrate a shadow on the crease alone. It comes in 2 sizes depending on the size of your eyes - i have hooded eyes and hence tend to use the small creased brush.

3. Smokey eyes brush

Come fall, smokey eyes will be back in town! This brush is a life saver during the morning while rushing to work to add a little pop of colour to the eyes - especially for hooded eyes!
Mini tutorial: Prime your eyes with a mac paint pot closest to your skin type(mine is soft ochre - If you are fair you can use Painterly paint pot, and for those darker beauties - Groundwork/ Quite Natural are perfect!). Take the smokey eye brush and add a pop of colour to the outer V of the eye and blend towards the crease line. Line your eyes and apply mascara and you are good to go!
I use the small crease brush from makeup geek - you could use their outer  V brush if you have bigger eyelids.

4. Pencil brush

If you are going ahead with a smokey eye then you essentially need a brush small and thin enough to blur out the kajal lines. This is where the pencil brush comes in and adds a beautiful effect to the eyes! I love the makeup geek pencil brush because it is smaller than all the other brushes in the market.

4. Bent Eyeliner brush:

Last but definitely not the least, with all the gel liners going round the market, an absolute essential for your makeup kit is the bent liner brush - i have the inglot 30T and love it! This brush makes application so easy for beginners as you just need to lay the brush straight onto your eye and pull - the bent shape creates a perfect line for it.

Those are the brushes you absolutely need in your collection. Ive also listed a few you might like for a more professional finish:

1. Contour:
A brush i purchased recently from makeup geek(im starting to love this girl!) is an angled stippling brush - the angle makes the pickup and setting of the contour so easy that i cannot think of a better pick for this category!

2. Blush:
Besides the angled stippling and stippling brushes, i love the brush 150 from Mac and the Real techniques blush brush. The hairs on the brush are so soft and glide beautifully on the skin!

3. Cheek highlighting brush:
This is a great buy for adding a little highlight to your cheek. It is also a great buy for blending in your corrector/concealor. The mac 130 brush does a good job for this - a lower alternative is the cheek stippling brush from MUG!

So there we have it guys - i hope this helps you when you have to buy your brush set!
